Speaker: Dr. Claire Ann Richards, Assistant Professor, Washington State University College of Nursing
Title: Energy Insecurity and Human Health
Dr. Richards will share her program of research on energy insecurity and its relationship to climate breakdown. Dr. Richards will discuss different approaches to describing and addressing co-occurring power outages, wildfire, and extreme heat in the Pacific Northwest.
Objectives of the talk are:
- Attendees can distinguish acute and chronic forms of energy insecurity and what is known about how they relate to structural and social determinants of health
- Attendees will understand challenges with available data to conduct surveillance of energy insecurity
- Attendees will discuss potential community-based interventions to protect human health in the context of energy insecurity and climate breakdown
