ANHE Nurses Recognized for Public Health Achievements

Congratulations to ANHE nurses Barbara Polivka and Lisa Campbell for their recognition by the Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association at the 2017 annual conference! 

Dr. Barbara J. Polivka, RN, PhD, FAAN  was presented the 2017 Ruth B. Freeman Award, which honors an individual for distinguished work in the following areas, public health administration, education, policy, practice or research. Dr. Polivka is a professor and the Shirley B. Powers Endowed Chair in Nursing at the University of Louisville School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky. Her distinguished career in education spans 25 years, where she has been recognized for her work as an educator, author, and researcher. Her published research related to environmental health includes topics such as lead poisoning prevention, poison prevention, healthy homes, disaster preparedness, public health nursing, and public health services.

Dr. Polivka as the ANHE research workgroup co-chair has been instrumental in leading efforts to provide resources and support to enable nurses to solve environmental challenges to health through the creation of new knowledge.

Dr. Lisa A. Campbell, DNP, RN, PHNA-BC  was presented the 2017 Public Health Nurse Creative Achievement Award, which recognizes a person’s exceptional and creative contribution to public health nursing administration, education, practice, or research. Dr. Campbell is an associate professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in Lubbock, Texas, where she teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Her teaching focus for doctoral students is in the area of population health, epidemiology, and health policy, helping to engage students in real world population health and policy projects. She has experience as a public health department director and with county, state, and national leaders fostering community engagement, nursing practice excellence, and academic and community partnerships.

Dr. Campbell is the chair for the American Public Health Association’s Public Health Nursing Section and a member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments’ Board of Directors.
