Bipartisan Infrastructure Agreement Heads to President Biden’s Desk
[Washington, DC] (November 5th, 2021) – Today, the House of Representatives voted on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Agreement.
In response to the decision today, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE) Executive Director, Katie Huffling, released the following statement:
“While we are thrilled that Congress has passed the bipartisan infrastructure agreement, passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act alone, without the Build Back Better Act, is not climate action. The bipartisan infrastructure deal is an important start but it doesn’t go far enough to make the critical climate and clean energy investments scientists tell us are necessary to address the climate crisis. The companion budget bill, when passed, will make the bold and ambitious investments needed to tackle the climate crisis, achieve true environmental justice, and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
“When the bipartisan infrastructure agreement and the Build Back Better Act are combined, 94% of emissions reductions stem primarily from the investments made in the Build Back Better Act. Passing a combination of infrastructure and reconciliation legislation will put us on the path that science demands. Time is running out for the health of our communities and our planet. We can’t combat climate change without passing the Build Back Better Act.”
