EnviRN News – August 13, 2017 Collaborative PBTs Playbook Food 2030

August 13, 2017

I hope you are ready for the eclipse next week. The laws of physics will change, time will quit its linear path, poisons will disappear from our environment, carbon dioxide will return to more normal levels, and, well, maybe not. Enjoy!

Nursing Collaborative

ANHE has partnered with ecoAmerica as a founding partner of Climate for Health, a national initiative that brings together leaders across the health sector that are committed to advancing climate solutions to protect the health and well-being of all Americans. Through this partnership ANHE has formed the Nursing Collaborative on Climate Change and Health, a collaborative effort between national nursing organizations, focused on elevating climate change as a health priority, creating a nursing literature community, and building collective support and action for solutions. For more information go to Climate.

PBTs

EPA is hosting a webinar to explain the process regarding five persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic chemicals under TSCA. The webinar is on 9/7/17. For more information about the webinar go to PBT. And for some background go to Chemicals. Ok, I admit it seems to me if EPA is calling a chemical PERSISTENT BIOACCUMULATIVE TOXIC getting it out of our lives is a no brainer. At that second site you can scroll down to find the link to where you can comment. Get them gone is what I think.

Playbook

Hospitals are a big deal. I think I know there are about 35 million admissions per year, average stay is about 4.5 days, while large hospitals have about 2 percent of the commercial floor space they consumed 5.5 percent of energy used by the commercial sector. And there is food, water, toxic exposures, and many other issues. For Climate Action Playbook for Hospitals go to Playbook.  And check in at the ANHE Practice workgroup.

Food

I love to eat. I love it too much. That BMI thing is just hurful. It is wonderful that so many people are working on food at many levels. Check out these readings about the Good Food Movement.

2030

Time to weigh on the plans for Healthy People 2030 at, of course, 2030. I wonder if they will listen to my whining they missed an opportunity to tie it to the song “In The Year 2525”?
