Nurses Applaud Robust Climate Action by U.S. House
[Washington, DC] (November 19, 2021) – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act (BBBA) including the most significant investments in climate in U.S. history. In response to the decision today, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE) Executive Director, Katie Huffling, released the following statement:
“As nurses, we know that climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time and action is needed now. The Build Back Better Act will make a difference for people all across the country by protecting the water they drink, creating new family-sustaining jobs, restoring our coastlines, putting a new generation to work protecting our public lands and wildlife, delivering action on environmental justice and cutting carbon pollution. The historic BBBA is the culmination of decades of tireless work by climate advocates, congressional champions, clean energy experts, and families and communities long impacted by climate change, believing we can and need to take climate action. The largest investments in the Build Back Better Act are in climate action and protecting our air, water, and wildlife — all while making the wealthy and corporate polluters pay their fair share. Now that the House has taken action to move the wildly popular Build Back Better Act forward, it’s up to the U.S. Senate to get us over the finish line and take the necessary steps to halt the climate crisis and invest in our clean energy economy.
“Nurses urge Congress to continue to build on this moment and work with President Biden to make much-needed investments in the health of our communities by restoring clean drinking water, reducing pollution and building an infrastructure that supports our Nation moving past the use of fossil fuels.”
