The Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments is pleased to announced that the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) is now a member of the Nursing Collaborative on Climate Change and Health. AAOHN represents licensed nurses practicing in occupation and environmental health nursing and focuses work in leadership development, professional education, advocacy on critical occupational issues, and the promotion of health and safety of work settings. The mission of AAOHN is to “ensure that occupational and environmental health nurses are seen as the authority on health, safety, productivity and disability management for worker populations” (AAOHN, 2018).
The Nursing Collaborative on Climate Change and Health was formed in partnership with Climate for Health, an ecoAmerica program, and is aimed at building support across the nursing profession to address climate change as a health imperative. Changes in climatic conditions poses significant occupational health hazards and AAOHN will help elevate the importance of addressing climate change from the perspective of worker health and safety. Current members of the Nursing Collaborative include the following organizations:
- National Association of Hispanic Nurses
- National Student Nurses’ Association
- Nurses Alliance of SEIU Healthcare
- Association of Public Health Nurses
- Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association
- National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health
- Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association
