Nurses Applaud EPA’s Restoration of State Authority to Adopt Strong Clean Car Standards
[Washington, DC] (March 9, 2022)– Today, President Biden’s EPA finalized its rule reversing the previous administration’s attempt to weaken the Clean Air Act and restoring a key tool to address emissions from the transportation sector, America’s leading source of carbon pollution. In response to this news, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments’ (ANHE) Executive Director, Katie Huffling, DNP, RN, CNM, FAAN released the following statement:
“The EPA’s move today restores states’ authority, authorized under the Clean Air Act, to set stronger than federal vehicle pollution standards. This is a huge opportunity for not only California, but numerous other states, to adopt tougher pollution standards for cars and trucks and promote cleaner air across the country. EPA’s reinstatement supports cleaner air and will directly protect public health while fighting the climate crisis.
“Nurses thank EPA for their continued efforts in protecting public health and the Clean Air Act. This decision provides an opportunity for states to adopt stronger pollution standards and bolsters efforts towards advancing clean car standards and reducing dangerous pollution from the transportation sector nationwide.”
