The presentation occurred at our monthly meeting on Thursday, January 25 at 3 pm ET as we continued our work on our Research Priorities in Environmental Health Nursing.
Dr. Barbara Polivka is Professor and Shirley B. Powers Endowed Chair of Nursing Research at The University of Louisville School of Nursing. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati and her PhD in Nursing from The Ohio State University. Her research interests focus on environmental health including lead poisoning prevention, poison prevention, and healthy homes, home healthcare worker health and safety, and the impact of the home environment on asthma exacerbation. She is currently the Principal Investigator on a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health funded study to develop, test, and evaluate a Virtual Simulation Training System designed to train home healthcare professionals in the identification of, assessment of, and response to health and safety hazards in the home. She is also the Principal Investigator on a National Institute of Aging study focused on asthma and asthma triggers in older adults. She has multiple publications in nursing and interdisciplinary journals and has presented at national, regional, and local conferences on these topics.
Dr. Rosemary Valedes Chaudry earned her graduate degrees (PhD, MPH, MHA) from Ohio State University. She is board certified in nursing as an advanced public health nurse (PHNA-BC) and in public health (CPH). She works intermittently as nursing instructor and also as a community health specialist at the Delaware General Health District, where she was the accreditation coordinator and the MAPP coordinator before her retirement in 2014. Most of her time is spent in public health advocacy in environmental health (climate change, air, water, chemicals, built environment, lead poisoning, environmental justice), and public health, equity, and social justice. She is part of advocacy efforts through numerus agencies the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, the Ohio PH Association (OPHA), the Ohio Environmental Council, Ohio Healthy Homes Network, and the League of Women Voters. She is a Climate Reality Project leader. She is OPHA’s representative to the APHA Governing Council and is a former member of the Ohio Public Health Council, Ohio Public Health Advisory Board, and her county board of health.
